The Sydney to Dubbo Zoo2Zoo ride combines some of the best scenery with supporting a good cause!
The Sydney to Dubbo Zoo2Zoo Ride is an organised three-day social group ride through country NSW that raises funds for the treatment of depression and bipolar disorder.
The Z002Zoo Ride started in 2006 when a group of friends rode from Taronga Zoo to the Western Plains Zoo, with the simple goal of raising some money. Since then, the Z002Zoo Ride has evolved into a series of 5 rides held throughout the year: Melbourne to Canberra, Canberra to Dubbo, Canberra to Mogo, Sydney to Dubbo and Molong to Dubbo.
The Z002Zoo Ride is now raising money for the Black Dog Institute, which is a not-for-profit, educational, research, clinical and community-oriented facility offering specialist expertise in depression and bipolar disorder.
The Sydney to Dubbo stint is a three-day ride.
Day 1 Sydney to Blackheath. (134km) Day 1 starts quite early at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. You’ll then make your way from Mosman to Yarramundi Lookout, regrouping with the other riders for morning tea. You’ll make your way through Springwood stopping for lunch at Wentworth Falls, before starting the climb into Katoomba. The peloton will have a police escort to the town of Blackheath, a small town near Katoomba. This marks the end of day one with 134 km covered and a well-earned rest.
Day 2 Blackheath to Molong. (181km) Day 2 is a big day with some distance to cover! You’ll leave Blackheath through some of the rolling hills, descending into Lithgow where you’ll stop for morning tea. Then continuing onto Bathurst for a regroup and a long break with lunch. From here you’ll then continue on through the back roads into Orange, where you’ll stop for another break before heading into the very picturesque countryside on the way to Molong. Molong is where you will stop for the night. A big day at the office, as some would say!
Day 3 Molong to Dubbo. (115km) Day 3 is a relatively short day of riding that starts off with a nice short ride up and down some rolling hills into Cumnock. After stopping for breakfast, you’ll then continue on through the backcountry to Yeoval. After another coffee break, you’ll then have some good climbs and descents through some beautiful countryside before riding into Dubbo. The whole peloton will then ride together into the Western Plains Zoo, which marks the end of our journey. A journey of 115 kilometres today.
This sounds like a fantastic 3-day ride (if you don’t mind the odd hill or two) through some beautiful countryside with some like-minded people! Plus you will be helping to raise money for a good cause!
