So what cycling events do you have planned for August?
August is a pretty quiet month for cycling events in Australia. Most of the rides are being held in Queensland, where Winter is milder and dryer!
In Western Australia, you’ll also find the Element Road Series, which is 3-4 series fondo or race. This round is through the rolling farmlands of York.
In the Northern Territory, the Top End Gran Fondo is the perfect excuse for a trip away from the winter cold. This 1 day gran fondo is the big dance on the NT road cycling calendar!
In Queensland, there are a number of different rides on offer, ranging from 1 to 9 days long!
If you’re a MTBer, then the Reef to Reef MTB Race might appeal to you. You’ll find 4 days of events around Port Douglas and Cairns. Technically this is a race, but many see it as a ride, and attend for the sheer joy of riding off-road.
If you feel like a long ride down the coast from Townsville to Brisbane, then The Original Smiddy Challenge, might appeal to you. Over 9 days you’ll be riding approximately 1600km and raising money for charity.
The Mt Isa Border Ride is a gruelling 1 day ride, where you’ll ride about 200km along the long, flat highway to the QLD/NT border. You can participate as a team or individually.
At Noosa, you can escape Winter for the weekend, with the Noosa Strade Bianche. This 2 day cycling event for steel-framed bikes is combined with a weekend festival to celebrate vintage cycling.
The following weekend, you’ll find the Noosa Classic at the Sunshine Coast. This 1 day event has 3 distances, with ane vent village that highlight local produce, food, breweries and wineries.
In Brisbane, we have the Tour de Pif, an annual charity ride through the wider Moreton Bay region. There’s a King of the Mountain, some good climbs and 2 distances.
You’ll also find a list below of all of the rides in August.
