Ride Details

The Woolies on Wheels Ride is a 3 day ride for intermediate riders looking for their next big challenge!

The Woolies on Wheels Ride is the opportunity to spend 3 days riding through the scenic northern coast of Sydney.

The Woolies on Wheels Ride is a partnership between Woolworths and the Tour de Cure, with money raised going towards cancer research, support and prevention programs.

This is a 3 day tour starting in Bella Vista on the North Western side of Sydney. The route is based upon the following destinations: Bella Vista to Wisemans Ferry, through to Terrigal on the northern coast, and then returning to Sydney. The ride is limited to 120 riders who are employee’s, businesses, partners and customers of Woolworths in an effort to keep people being active.

This rider is for the intermediate rider ie you should be comfortable on a bike and able to descend safely. You will be able to ride 100km and ascend 750m in one ride. You should be riding 200km per week in training for the ride. Tour de Cure does help with training programs during the lead up to the ride.

At the time this ride is held, which is late autumn, the weather can be described as cool ie 5 to 15 degree days. So expect to have a cold front and showers come through, based upon a trip this long.

The Woolies on Wheels Ride raises vital funds for pioneering cancer research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. It is organised by the Tour de Cure, an Australian charity that raises money to fund cancer research, prevention and support services and programs.  They are based in Sydney and organise cycling tours and fundraising events throughout Australia. There are a series of events to suit riders who live in any state of Australia covering different timeframes. This includes the Signature Tour from Sydney to Geelong this year, the High Country Charity Ride, the Westpac 202,  the Woolies Wheels and Walks, the SA Discovery Tour, the LIFE Ride, the Peter Mac Ride,  the Can4Cancer ride.  That is 8 rides in total each year!

Most of the rides tend to be a multi-day ride or event covering anywhere from 200 to 1000 km.

The Tour de Cure cycling events have some well-known high profile cyclists including former professional cyclist, Jens Voigt, Australian champion rower Drew Ginn,  Paralympic Matthew Formston, the professional actor Eric Bana and the Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta. These people cycle the full event,  they don’t just sit on the sideline and wave you off at the start line. They ride the whole distance with you, so you can get up close and personal.

You’ll find other cycling events, like the Woolies on Wheels Ride, in our online Cycling Event Calendar.
