Event Details

The Tour of the Blackwood is a challenging 130km ride with over 2000m of climbing in the beautiful Bridgetown region in south-west WA

The Tour of the Blackwood is a challenging ride along the mighty Blackwood River, through beautiful forests in a stunning part of WA’s south-west region.

This cycling event is held in the south western town of Bridgetown in Western Australia. The town of Bridgetown is  260 km southeast or a three hour drive from Perth CBD, or an hour and a half’s drive from Bunbury.

The Tour of Backwood has three rides on offer, suitable for riders of all abilities. You’ll find the Full Tour (134km), the Half N Best (65km) and the family ride known as The Not so Cozy (30km).

The Full Tour is a challenging ride for advanced riders, where you’ll cover 134km from Bridgetown to Balingup and Nannup. Expect 1700m of climbs! The ride starts in Bridgetown and heads north-east towards Boyanup Brooke before turning towards  Greenbushes North and through to Balingup. From Balingup, the route follows the banks of the Blackwood River and down towards Nannup. You’ll be riding through farmland, rolling hills and the natural forest of Karri and Jarrah.  From Nannup, you’ll climb out of town along the Brookman Highway. This is a 300m plus climb and then rolling undulations before a great descent and then some smaller hills before you roll back into Bridgetown.

The Half N Best is designed for those who are relatively fit but still looking for a challenge, where you’ll cover 65km from Bridgetown and Greenbushes. You’ll find climbs of 841m. The ride starts in Bridgetown, following the same route north to Greenbushes with the Full Tour riders. You’ll then be turning south at Greenbushes through the undulations to join the Brockman Highway, before returning to Bridgetown. A nice short sharp ride with enough elevation to still be challenging. It’s also quite a picturesque ride through farming country and native Bushland.

This year includes the introduction of e-bikes to the entries, which will be especially handy for the Cat 4 climbs.

The updated NOT-SO-COZY is a course aimed at families and particularly youth. It’s a 30km ride from the Greenbushes Townsite back to the Bridgetown River Park. This great introductory road ride is designed to encourage community participation and fit beginners to take on their first significant road ride.

The Tour of Blackwood raises money for Blackwood Youth Action, a local not for profit group, that provides counselling to young people across the Warren Blackwood region. This is a true community ride coming together to support each other.

This cycling event is a great excuse to get out and see a beautiful part of the region in the Southwest.  It’s also a great chance to enjoy the other features of the district, including fresh produce, local cideries and boutique breweries.

  1. This is a great ride through the country side over the undulations in the tall timber country with a killer climb out of Nannup.

We made a great long weekend with a detour to some of the local attractions, namely the Cidery for lunch, post event and the Mine lookout at Greenbushies. thinks you have to do.
