The Robbie McEwen Gran Fondo is a great opportunity to ride on a supervised course and experience the beauty of the Gold Coast hinterland

Join Robbie McEwen, for his signature Gran Fondo. This is a tour through the beautiful  sub-tropical Gold Coast hinterland including the climbs to Beechmont and Springbrook.

Robbie McEwen is one of the most successful sprinters in the modern era.  So why does he choose to do so many of the climbs around the hinterland behind the gold coast? Because it is all good fun.

Over 2 days you’ll find a mixture of road and mountain bike rides, with courses to suit the ability and experience of all riders. This year sees the introduction of a mountain bike gravel course and a trail run.

The exact MTB route has yet to be finalised and distances may change slightly, but you can expect to find a 2km and 4km ride for the kids, and 20km and 40 km rides for the grown-ups with lots of single track!

The Robbie McEwen Gran Fondo has 3 distances for the road event with the extensive Grande, Medio or Piccolo Giro all starting from the Nerang Cycling Centre. Nerang is on the western side of the Gold Coast, a popular place for tourists. It is easy to get to Nerang, with an airport nearby and the train connecting through from Brisbane.

Piccolo Giro: 62km and 1000m. A solid little ride! A loop with the climb up Springbrook with all of its switchbacks up to the Little Nerang Dam. Follow the banks of the Advancetown Lake on the return to Nerang.

Medio Giro: 100km and 2000+m. A solid ride with 2 major Cat 2 climbs up Springbrook and Beechmont. This ride is like the Piccolo through to the 50km mark at Advancetown, before turning up the escarpment into Beechmont before the return back down, returning to Nerang.

Grande Giro: 130km and 2800+m. A hard day with two major climbs up onto the GoldCoast hinterland mountain range, including the climb into Springbrook and Beechmont. Like the Medio with a detour up the Numinbah Valley.

At this time of year, the weather is cool at the start of the day, without being too warm later in the day.
