The Red Sky Ride is a challenging 4-day endurance ride from Perth return via Ferguson Valley and Bunbury

The Red Sky Ride in 2022 is a 4-day ride that starts in Starts and finishes in Perth via Narrogin and Bunbury.  This is a challenging ride with some days being tougher than others! Both physically and mentally. It is also a fundraising ride, where you will be raising funds for Solaris Cancer Care. They are Western Australia’s leader in cancer support and integrative health care.

The event itself is actually a ride from the Perth through york, Narrogin, Collie, Bridgetown, and through to Bunbury on the coast and then the final push through to Perth. This is 4 days of solid riding that you will need to train for. You also have the option of just riding a single day (or two).

The Red Sky Ride starts with a road trip of sorts, getting yourself to Cottesloe with all your gear to be loaded up and bike. Then let the adventure begin on this 840+ km into the south-west zone of the southern Wheatbelt and coastline of Western Australia.

Each day is a ride of between 120 to 180 km.

Day 1. The Perth to York. (130km)

Day 2. York to Narrogin. (136km)

Day 3. Narrogin to Bunbury. (179km)

Day 4. Bunbury to Perth is along the coastal plain to the CBD. (175km)

Each rider is expected to raise the required fundraising and to attend training before the start of the riding week. Which means that ideally you need to be living in Perth or able to attend at least one training ride each month.

The Red Sky Ride is fully supported with lead vehicles, and support with snacks and hydration, along with emergency mechanical repairs.

There is a post-event appreciation evening with family and supporters of the ride being held at the Solaris Cancer Centre in Cottesloe.

This is a great ride to attend as you are helping to support families with cancer. On a personal level, you have the challenge of achieving the fundraising goals as well as reaching a certain level of fitness for riding.

The ride happens in March, which is turning into the late summer months. The weather in Albany and along the southern coast is milder than Perth but may receive some drizzle. As a guide, you can expect temperatures of between 15 – 30 degrees celsius.

You’ll find other great rides, like the Red Sky Ride, in our online Cycling Event Calendar.
