Gravel Grinder Challenge is a great day out just 2 hours north of Perth.
Gravel Grinder Challenge is a real country event in the middle of the northern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, just 2 hours north of Perth. This is a one day Grand Fondo Style cycling event catering for all levels of ability and fitness, from junior riders to the over 50’s, from the novice rider to the keen enthusiast, for anyone embarking on a fitness campaign and for anyone just wanting to have a fun day. You can ride as a team or an individual, and you can enter as a recreational ride or race it. It’s up to you!
The events are starting from Watheroo (long and kids rides) near Moora, with all rider’s finishing at Watheroo. Events are timed to start in the afternoon, with the longer 88km ride starting after midday.
This is a community European style event with a challenging 88km and 57km routes on gravel roads and the kid-friendly 15km Grommit Gravel Grind. This ride will give a real sense of the Wheatbelt – starting with plenty of big trees and lots of shade and moving on to wide, open spaces and great views. The ride does have a few undulations to help mix up the view. With plenty of drink stops along the way. Sorry water/sports drink only! 😉
You can challenge yourself as an individual rider, or enter as a team of 4 and ride the distance together, as a group, at the pace of the slowest rider. Changes are made at the frequent drink stops.
Accommodation is available at the Watheroo hockey ground for the campers and true gravel tourist. Otherwise, arrangements can be made at the numerous hotels/pub and BnB’s in the district.
