Mt Torrens is the second of 5 rides in the Grand Slam Challenge Series
Mt Torrens is the second of five rides from the Gland Slam Challenge Series. Hosted by BikeSA, you will find five recreational challenge rides throughout the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and Fleurieu Peninsula. You can choose to ride in one, two, three, four or all five of the rides, with each consecutive ride gradually becoming more challenging. Each of the rides combines 2 different loops of between 50km and 100km, all starting and finishing in the one location. For those who are looking for something a little less challenging, you can sign up for the Mini Slam in which you complete only the one loop.
The Gland Slam Challenge Series is perfect for cyclists who want to build their fitness and increase their endurance. It’s also a great excuse to get out regularly and to meet up with like-minded people!
The organiser, BikeSA, is a not for profit organisation, independent of government, who promote all types of cycling and is focused on improving riding condition in SA.
The Mt Torrens ride is the first in the Gland Slam Challenge Series. It starts at Mt Torrens, which is found on the eastern side of the Foothills in the east of Adelaide. So if you aren’t a local, it is about 60km east of the Airport and 45km east from the CBD.
You can expect the route to be a combination of undulations. These are quiet farming roads in the hills away from the main tourist areas. There are two distances. You can choose to do either 1 loop ie 50km or 2 loops ie 100km. The route is a 50km loop is to the west of Mt Torrens and goes through Gumeracha. For those wanting the longer distance do a second loop to the east of Mt Torrens. As this ride is held in February, you can expect it to still be quite warm as it is late summer.
Being the first in the Gland Slam Challenge Series, the Mt Torrens is the perfect challenge to start the year with!
