Gear up Girl Central Coast is an opportunity for regional women to get out there and ride their bikes together

Gear up Girl is a women’s only ride that is held in Tuggerah on the Central Coast, approximately 90km north of Sydney. This event is being organised by the Central Coast Bicycle User Group, an affiliated bike user group (BUG)  with Bicycle NSW. This ride provides opportunities for women to experience the pleasure of riding a bicycle.

Gear up Girl Central Coast starts at Picnic Point Reserve at Tuggerah.

There are 3 rides on offer: the 25km Lakeside Ride (mostly/all path), the 45km Loop of the Lake Ride (road & path) and the 80km Challenge Ride. Two of the rides can be RidesAssist rides, where those living with visual impairment can hop on the back of a tandem and go for a ride.

The 25km Lakeside Ride is perfect for riders of all ages and skill levels, with an average pace of 10-15km an hour.  This ride starts at The Entrance (Picnic Point Reserve), taking the picturesque shared path along Tuggerah lake towards Chittaway, passing the long jetty at Long Jetty, before returning for morning tea at The Entrance.

The 45km Loop of the Lake Ride is also perfect for riders of all ages who are able to keep up a slightly faster pace of 15-25km an hour. This ride starts at The Entrance (Picnic Point Reserve) and loops around Tuggerah Lake anticlockwise, before heading back to The Entrance for morning tea. This ride is mostly on road shoulders, with some fast sections where riders can stretch their legs, and some shared paths where the pace is kept slow so we can safely “share the path”.

The 80km Challenge Ride is perfect for more experienced riders who are comfortable cycling on the road/road shoulder with some fast passing traffic in sections, with an average pace of 25-30km an hour.  This ride starts at The Entrance (Picnic Point Reserve), heading out to climb a few small hills and a ride along some fast sections where you can stretch your legs before returning to The Entrance.

The Gear up Girl Central Coast ride is for recreational cyclists and is about participation. It isn’t a race.
