Get your chance with the Fleurieu Fondo to ride Southern Expressway carfree or ride gravel

The Fleurieu Fondo is your golden opportunity to ride the Southern Expressway (with no cars) to McLaren Vale and the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way. You’ll have the choice of 3 different types of rides: Road, Gravel and Cyclocross.

This ride is a fundraiser for BikeSA’s “Bikes Palya!” remote indigenous schools program in the remote APY lands (Anangu Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara), north of Adelaide. This program turns cycling into learning opportunities for aboriginal youth through programs that reinforce values of pride and responsibility while creating a healthy pastime. In schools where attendance can be very low, “Bikes Palya!” aims to drive attendance rates higher and to engage with typically hard to reach youth through the power of the bike.

Bus transfers are available to O’Halloran Hill and Flinders University (at extra cost).

The organiser, BikeSA, is a not for profit organisation, independent of government, who promote all types of cycling and is focused on improving riding condition in SA.

Fleurie Fondo Road Ride

The Fleurie Fondo Road Ride is perfect for riders of all abilities with the choice or taking a short cut or avoiding the big hills. You have the choice of riding the 125km Grande, the 100km Classic or the 70km Challenge. Or you can ride the 35km/30km Coast to Vines Express or the 12km Family Shiraz Trail.

The 125/100/70/35km riders will start at Flinders University, with 30km riders starting at O’Halloran Hill, and the 12km riders starting at Serafino Winery at Mclaren Vale.

On leaving Flinders University, you’ll cruise along the car-free Southern Expressway, before heading inland to Wilunga via the rolling hills and wineries before taking on a climb up the famous Willunga Hill – twice if you’re really keen!! You can then stop and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top before finishing at Serafino Wines in McLaren Vale.

Fleurie Fondo Gravel – The Mclaren Gravale Ride

The McLaren GraVale offers riders the opportunity to ride through scenic and quiet gravel roads of the Southern Vales. You’ll have the choice of riding approximately 40km or 65km. Both rides start at Serafino Winery at McLaren Vale, with the longer riders diverting to take an additional loop.

This is the perfect opportunity to find out why gravel riding is becoming so popular.

Once the ride is finished it is time to relax in the grounds of the Serafino Winery. There is a bus service available with two main services. A pre event and a post event service that will take riders and their bikes from the finish back to the numerous start locations. This is so that people can set up there post ride travel options.
