Ride Details

The Century Challenge is a challenging ride through the beautiful hinterland of the NSW  central coast.

*** Cancelled due to C-19 for 2020, try again next year, ie 16th May 2021 ***

The Century Challenge is a 1 day charity ride through the hinterland of the central coast via Somersby and Mangrove Mountain. Located just one hour north of Sydney, it starts and finishes at  Mt Penang Parklands, nestled on the edge of the Mooney Mooney Creek near Gosford.

The 2020 ride is the 20 year anniversary of this ride, which has a reputation for being one of the most challenging 100km  cycle courses around.

You’ll find 3 routes.

The Epic 100km Challenge, with over 1300m of climbing.  Heading west out of town, try to keep the legs warm as you descend into the Mooney Mooney Creek bridge crossing with the 4 km climb back up out of the valley. Surrounded by the gum, ferns and the temperate rain forest, this is what riding is all about with the rest of the world miles away. With your breath back and the hard yards in the bank early, it is time to settle into a rhythm as you’ll pst farmland and orchards along the ridges of the plain that make up a series of rolling undulations out to Peats ridge and Somersby. Just to make sure the route loops back and towards Calga before the turn back again over the undulation again. Then for the final test of your legs on the Somersby Falls Road segment. Then roll back into to Kariong and the finish line.

The Standard 50km Challenge, with over 700m of climbing. Similar to the Epic challenge, this is a single loop around through the stunning Brisbane Water national park and the good climb of the Mooney Mooey Creek. Take your time to enjoy the switchback winding up through the rain forest. Then on to the plain of the farmlands out to Peats ridge and Somersby with its undulations. great riding for one and all.

The Short 18km Challenge, is for the whole family. With the Kids Challenge on the safe grounds of the Mt Penang Gardens.

This is a charity ride, organised by the Rotary Clubs of Erina and Gosford North, with money raised for Coast Shelter and Lifeline.

So if you live in Sydney (or nearby), you should make the effort to attend this ride. Recreational rides like this need to be supported, individually we ride, together we define what it is to be a community.

You’ll find other cycling events, like the Century Challenge, in our online Cycling Event Calendar.

Enjoy!
