The Bowral Classic is a Gran Fondo style road cycling event held in the picturesque surrounds of the NSW Southern Highlands

The award-winning Bowral Classic is not just another Gran Fondo ride! It’s a bucket list ride in a beautiful location with a great atmosphere.

This event is located at Bowral, which is about 1 and a half hours to the south of Sydney. Travel along the M31 and west (inland) of Wollongong to get there. Bowral is the perfect country escape,  and is a great place to spend the weekend with your partner as there is lots to see and do.

The Bowral Classic has a series of rides with 4 different routes for families to the serious athlete. These include the:

• 160km Maxi Classic with about 2000m ascent to challenge even the fittest rider.
• 125km Challenge Classic with about 1500m ascent with a timed section.
• 90km Rouleurs Classic with about 1100m ascent with a timed section and still a lot of climbing.
• 35km Social Classic with about 350m ascent.

The morning will see you ride down the main road of Bowral, before heading out towards Berrima, Exeter, Robertson and Kangaloon. A series of rolling hills or undulations as some would say, with a few punchy short climbs and the rewards of the descent. The route will take you onto the Greenhills Road for a little leg burner that is Mt Misery. Make note to self, beware of any road that has the name “Hill” in its name. The Bowral Classic KOM/QOM is held up the Oxley Hill over 1.3km at an 11% average Grade with an elevation gain of 130+m. Simple! 😉 Make sure you keep something in reserve for this section!

The weather in Bowral during October is in the middle of spring with the temperature ranging from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius. If it does rain, it should be light, so pack a light jacket or gilet just in case. Check the weather report before arriving.

The Bowral Classic is the perfect excuse to get away for the weekend. Make sure you book early so that you don’t miss out on accommodation for this busy weekend!
