The Northern Territory is a popular tourist destination but because of the small population, it doesn’t have as much in the cycling events calendar as other States. So you’ll only find a couple of rides. But because of tourism, you will find plenty of NT cycling tours to choose from around Darwin, Alice Springs, the Kakadu, Litchfields Park, Kings Canyon and Yulara.
If you’re looking for rides in the top end, around Darwin, then you should look at the extensive calendar from the Darwin Cycle Club. There’s quite a few rides happening. If you’re chasing some gravel or single-track, then Darwin Off-Road Cyclists also offer regular rides.
If you’re looking for rides around Central Australia, then the Alice Springs Cycling Club have a busy calendar, with races, gran fondos, challenges and cyclo-crosses on offer. For gravel and MTB riding, then have a look at what the Central Australian Rough Riders (CARR) have to offer.
There doesn’t appear to be any AUDAX rides on offer in the NT, but go have a look yourself (we last checked in November 2022).
So there isn’t a lot to choose from in the Northern Territory cycling calendar, but don’t let this stop you from visiting this beautiful part of Australia. Because most of their events are in Winter, this is a great opportunity for southern riders (and those in the know) to turn the pedals over during the dry season before the humidity hits.
