Outback Century Cycle Challenge is a long ride that will challenge you mentally (rather than physically)
Outback Century Cycle Challenge is a biennial 1-day cycling event that is held during the Winton Outback Festival. Winton is a small country town located in central Queensland and is a place that is well worth a visit.
The metric (100km) century is held on fully sealed roads and start and finish at Winton.
This ride is billed as the toughest, flattest cycling event in the Outback. The course is relatively flat but it travels through a landscape that is very repetitive (and possibly even a tad boring after the first 50kms) which means you don’t have any scenery to distract yourself with as you pedal along.
Outback Century Cycle Challenge is a great escape which coincides with the local Outback Festival. The town comes to life with events of all types, from tug of war pulling Semi’s through to the conventional run and also the road ride. So grab the swag and go west and north and then some. This is not a weekend away, this is a real trip away with a ride thrown in.
You’ll find other cycling events, like the Outback Century Cycle Challenge, in our online Cycling Event Calendar.
