Best Australian Gran Fondo Events

Gran Fondos have become very popular in Australia, with more of them being held each year.

So what is a Gran Fondo? Simply, it is an Italian word for a great ride!

They are usually a mass-participation cycling event where you’ll usually ride over 100 km that day. The emphasis is on camaraderie, spectacular scenery and personal achievement. There’s also the chance to win some prizes!

Electronic timing, ride jerseys, medical and mechanical support, feed zones and road blocks or escort vehicles are common.

Gran Fondos are designed to cater for riders of all abilities and experiences, with shorter options often available. You’ll find gran fondo events held in capital cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra and even Darwin. As well as in regional areas in New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory.

You’ll find plenty of gran fondo cycling events around Australia in our cycling events calendar. Good luck with making a decision!

  1. Hi
Is a license required to be able to enter Gran Fondos in Australia?

I ask because I would like to enter one in Italy, and the event seems to require a license or medical certificate.

    Hope you can help.

    Regards
    Richard
