Dare to Bare all with the World Naked Bike Ride in Nimbin

The World Naked Bike Ride Nimbin is a naked ride that is held in Nimbin. The Nimbin event is a short 30 minute ride and suitable for all fitness levels. You must be on a bike, skates or blades. The ride starts when everyone is painted up and ready to go. The ride itself consists of a few laps of the main street of Nimbin and takes about 30 minutes. The first part of the ride is up a hill from the bush theatre into town – please make sure you and your bike are in condition for the ride. Generally though it isn’t a taxing ride and a wide range of people take part each year.

The purpose of riding naked is to highlight the visibility or the distraction of motorists, who appear to be unable to see cyclists when wearing clothing.

 The event itself is a free event (donations welcome) and is available to all people of all ages, both young and old.  The World Naked Bike Ride is a global event with similar events happening throughout the world.

The amount of clothing that you do (or don’t wear) is up to you. You must wear a helmet, and nearly everyone wears shoes. You must also ride with some clothing to put on ‘just in case’.  The ride organisers don’t say that the event is illegal, but they also don’t say that it is legal. They say that Police have been supportive and that there have been no arrests since the ride first started in 2006.

This is a unique event that is growing in popularity (and not just for cyclists but for the crowds who turn up to watch).
