The SA Discovery Tour by Tour de Cure is a 3 day ride on Kangaroo Island. Kangaroo Island is renowned for it’s wildlife and rugged beauty. Perfect for enjoying by bike!
This is a challenging ride covering between 300-450km, with riders being split into two groups: the standard route and a longer route for those wanting even more of a challenge.
The SA Discovery Tour starts at Victor Harbour for a welcome dinner the evening before. Victor Harbour is located approximately 80km south of Adelaide and is easily accessible by road and bus.
Day 1. You’ll ride to Cape Jarvis and take a ferry over to Kangaroo Island where you’ll either complete 122km with 1300 m elevation gain or 14 km with 1400 m elevation gain. You’ll overnight at Kingscote for both nights.
Day 2. You’ll continue to the far end of the island the riders, completing either 108kms with 600m elevation gain, or 118km with a 700m elevation gain.
Day 3. You’ll ride either 122km with 1300m elevation gain or 140km with 1500m elevation gain. Both groups will then travel by ferry from Cape Jervis back to Victor Harbour. Well done and your job is done!
If you have a gravel bike or a mountain bike, you will be well served as the roads are not all tarred on Kangaroo Island. You’ll get to experience the crushed limestone as your road base which is a solid surface to ride on.
The SA Discovery Tour raises vital funds for pioneering cancer research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. It is organised by the Tour de Cure, an Australian charity that raises money to fund cancer research, prevention and support services and programs. They are based in Sydney and organise cycling tours and fundraising events throughout Australia. Most of the rides tend to be a multi-day ride or event covering anywhere from 200 to 1000 km.
