Ride Details

The VIC stage of the Signature Tour is a 2 day ride for cyclists of all abilities from Shepparton to Geelong.

The Signature Tour is a 5 day ride for cyclists of all abilities that starts in Sydney and finishes in Geelong. This ride is the main cycling event held by the Tour de Cure.

The 2019 ride celebrates the 10th Anniversary ride of the high profile rider and Sunrise Sports presenter, Mark Beretta, with a ride from Sydney to Berrett’s hometown of Geelong.

The Signature Tour covers some of the best riding in Australia, as you travel to the idyllic seaside town of Kiama, before heading inland to tackle the scenic and beautiful country towns from Canberra to Corryong, before experiencing Central Victoria. Over 9 days, you can expect to travel approximately 1275km and 13,800m elevation over 9 days.

Because it is a 9 day event and not everyone can commit to such a long ride, the Signature Tour has been split into 2 stages: New South Wales and Victoria.

Option 1 is the NSW Stage, with the second stage being the VIC stage.

The VIC Stage runs over 2 days with 350km’s and 3,149 m of elevation under your wheels. Riders starting here will join the rest of the riders at Shepparton for the final push to Geelong. This stage of the tour is from Shepparton to Geelong via Daylesford. The hard work is done on the first day’s ride with 200km and 1,300+m elevation through the undulations to the North of Melbourne and to the Spa country. The second day is a cruise off the hills for a 100km ride with 450m elevation, finishing in Geelong. Easy!

This stage is suitable for experienced and fit riders. Again, you’ll have plenty of support in both riding and fundraising during the lead up to tour.

Weather in May, which is late autumn, can be described as cool ie 5 to 20 degrees celsius. So expect to have a cold front and showers come through, especially with a trip this long.

The Signature Tour raises vital funds for pioneering cancer research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. It is organised by the Tour de Cure, an Australian charity that raises money to fund cancer research, prevention and support services and programs.  They are based in Sydney and organise cycling tours and fundraising events throughout Australia. There are a series of events to suit riders who live in any state of Australia covering different timeframes. This includes the Signature Tour from Sydney to Geelong this year, the High Country Charity Ride, the Westpac 202,  the Woolies Wheels and Walks, the SA Discovery Tour, the LIFE Ride, the Peter Mac Ride,  the Can4Cancer ride.  That is 8 rides in total each year!

Most of the rides tend to be a multi-day ride or event covering anywhere from 200 to 1000 km.

The Tour de Cure cycling events have some well-known high profile cyclists including former profession cyclist, Jens Voigt, Australian champion rower Drew Ginn,  Paralympic Matthew Formston, the professional actor Eric Bana and the Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta. These people cycle the full event,  they don’t just sit on the sideline and wave you off at the start line. They ride the whole distance with you, so you can get up close and personal.

You’ll find other great rides, like the VIC stage of the Signature Tour, in our online Cycling Event Calendar.
