Explore Mackay with the River 2 Reef Ride
The River 2 Reef Ride is a great opportunity to shake off the winter blues with a ride out of Mackay in sunny Queensland. A great event from the start at the river, with some out and back’s to make up some elevation of the course.
The distances are:
- the family-friendly 35km with 135m elevation.
- the club 60km has 380m elevation gain
- the adventurous 90km has 600m of elevation gain
- the gran fondo 135km with 900+m elevation gain
Whatever your challenge or fitness level, there would be a ride distance to suit. Remember that this is a recreational ride and not a race.
The 35km ride is an out and back course whereas the other three are a loop type course. You can find the exact route on their website, for the 35km, 60km, 90km and 135km rides
Mackay is a town about 950km north of Brisbane and is a 10 1/2 hour drive or a 1 and a half hour plane trip from the Brisbane Airport. Mackay is 400km south-east of Townsville along the coastline South of Airlie Beach and is a 50 minute flight from Townsville.
Mackay is in the tropics or subtropical region of Queensland which means that the ride is held during the dry season. So in late September / early October, you can expect a minimum of around 15 rising to a maximum of around 27 degrees Celsius. The precipitation at this time of year is dry with increasing levels of humidity. So when riding it is best to make sure that you have both water bottles filled.
The River 2 Reef Ride is fundraising for 2 local charities, the RACQ Central Queensland Rescue and the Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association.
A true country community ride that gives back to their local community!
