The National Gran Fondo Bike Ride is the golden opportunity to ride the iconic Mt Bunninyong circuit

The National Gran Fondo Bike Ride is an event for recreational riders that coincides with the 4 day FedUni RoadNats Championships. Cyclists have the opportunity to ride the iconic Mt Bunninyong circuit in Ballarat, on fully closed roads. jump on board as this is the last time to ride at the nationals before it relocates in 2025.

You’ll have the chance to spend two hours peddling along the scenic Buninyong climb that the champions of Australia have just contested. The National Gran Fondo Bike Ride is on fully closed roads and you’ll have the chance to complete between 3-5 laps of the course. 

This event is popular so make sure you get in early to secure your spot.

This is a ride that you can do at your own pace. You can compete against riders in your own age group or as a recreational rider. This means you can either push yourself t ride hard or you can take it at a more leisurely pace with family and friends.

The weather in January in Ballarat and Buninyong is during the middle of the summer season however the temperature can vary quite considerably between the minimum and the maximum is the minimum can range between 5 to 15 and the maximum can range from  20 to 40 degrees. No rain would be expected. Bring a combination of clothing.

Ballarat is about 120 km west north west of Melbourne it is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from the CBD. By train, there is a V/Line daily service from the Central Station through to Ballarat which takes about 2 hours.  Remember to check with V/Line before or before boarding or when booking about the ability to travel with your bike.
