This is the one! A new member to add to the bucket list.
The L’Étape Australia by the organisers of le Tour de France is a unique road cycling event that provides an experience as close to riding in the Tour de France as it is possible for an amateur to get. Plus you’ll get the chance to climb the iconic Mt Kosciuszko.
Staged in the Snowy Mountains on fully closed roads and run under professional Tour de France Race conditions, you’ll find two routes: the Race and the Ride.
The Race has a distance of 170km, with a height gain of 3000m and the difficulty of this ride graded as Hard. You’ll be starting and finishing at Jindabyne, travelling from Jindabyne to Rocky Plains, Berridale, with the King of the Mountain sections at Col de Beloka and Col de Kosciuszko, before descending back to Jindabyne.
The Ride has a distance of 108km with a height gain of 1600m and the difficulty of this ride graded as Medium. You’ll follow the same route as the riders from the Race but you’ll return to Jindabyne after Col de Beloka before returning back to Jindabyne.
The Event Village is on the banks of Lake Jindabyne, with Matt Keenan calling in the riders as they cross the finish line. This is an event that the local community have embraced, with a Tour de France atmosphere.
You’ll find other cycling events, like L’Étape Australia, in our online Cycling Event Calendar.
Enjoy!
