Gravel Grit You Yangs is a great day out for new and experienced off-road riders who don’t mind a bit of gravel

Gravel Grit You Yangs is an off-road event through the You Yangs Regional Park for new and experienced gravel riders.

2019 ride details have yet to be confirmed.

This ride is on the doorstep of Melbourne and is an off-road cycling event that almost no one knows about. Why head out to the Warburton and the Yarra Ranges, when you can travel south towards Geelong. The You Yangs Regional Park is about 65km from the Melbourne CBD ie 1 hour by car or 25km north of the Geelong CBD ie 30 min by car.

Gravel Grit You Yangs has two rides on offer. The 32km ride (+496m gain) that is appropriately named The Teaser, and the 91km ride (+1100m gain) that’s called  The Long Haul.

The Teaser is suitable for riders with basic experience and provides the perfect introduction to off-road riding and a safe environment in which to practice basic skills. This ride heads out into the You Yangs Regional Park, passing some spectacular scenery. You’ll mainly be riding on gravel, with some single-tracks thrown in.

The Long Haul starts from Little River and heads out through the Brisbane Ranges, to the Steiglitz Historic Park before taking on the You Yangs Regional Park and looping back. You can expect to find steep pinches, sharp hairpins and technical descents which is better suited to experienced riders who enjoy a challenge.

The ride finishes with a meal and a drink, and the chance to stay and relive a few ‘war stories’! 😉

The local weather at this time of year is early Spring, which means it will be cool ie  0-5 to 15-20 degrees Celsius. If it does rain then it should be a light drizzle of 1mm or so.
