The Gravel Fondo is the perfect excuse to grind some gravel!
The Gravel Fondo is an off-road gravel cycling event that is a part of the Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo. This 45km gravel grind is based just outside of Lorne, about a 2 hour drive South West from Melbourne.
Gravel Grinding is riding a bike on gravel, loose stones or any unpaved surface using any type of bike including cyclo-cross, mountain bike, gravel grinder or hybrid. Gravel riding racing/riding has seen a growth over the past years to be popular with mountain bike, cyclocross and road cyclist.
THe Route is an adventure into the Otwat Ranges behind the town of Lorne. It is a out and back course up some serious hills. The route might be 45 km’s but it does contain over 1200+ meters of elevation again. Just remember that the ride does finish with a great 6km decent back to the start.
This is perfect to combine with the other events at the Amy’s grand fondo and bring a change of wheels along with your change of clothing.
You’ll find other cycling events, like the Gravel Fondo, in our online Cycling Event Calendar.
