A great opportunity to cycle through the Goldfields with the Goldfields Cyclassic
The Goldfields Cyclassic is a 2 day, 2 stage handicap race across the Goldfields, in Western Australia.
Riders will be racing across some of the richest and historic landscapes of the Western Australian Goldfields. With a total prize pool of $20 000 per day, it’s appropriate that this race also boasts as being “The Richest Handicap Cycle Race in Australia”.
Starting in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, you’ll then ride to Menzies and then Leonora. This race also coincides with the long weekend in Western Australia as well as the iconic Golden Gift Foot race, Australia’s richest mile running race along the dusty main street of Leonora with up to $50,00 up for grabs.
There are 2 stages to this race.
Stage 1 on the first day is the Shire of Menzies – 90th Menzies Classic – Chas Egan Memorial Race. Starting in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, you’ll ride 132km to Menzies, with 4 sprint sections on the way.
Stage 2 on the second day is the Minara Resources Leonora Golden Wheels. Starting in Menzies, you’ll ride 105km to Leonora, with 3 sprint sections on the way.
There is also a Community Challenge, that is held on Day 1, from Kalgoorlie-Boulder to Menzies. You can ride the 132km individually or with a team of up to 4 members. The route will be broken up into with a team of 2, 3 or 4 riders. The route is broken up into 4 roughly equal 35km sections, with changeovers at Paddington, Davyhurst and Comet Vale, before finishing at Menzies.
This looks like a fantastic weekend away in the bush, and being winter, it won’t be too hot!
