The Coast to Coast ride is a 1 day ride with a distance to suit everyone, and a route that features some of the most spectacular cycling South Australia has on offer. This is definitely a bucket list event!
The Coast to Coast starts in Glenelg, then travelling to the seaside town of Victor Harbour.
Note: Late Change; the Glenelg start location has been cancelled due to Fwy resurfacing. ride through to Stirling and then follow the 95km route.
There are four main routes with this ride:
- the 120km Grande, the 95 km Classic,
- the 65 km Challenge
- and the 10 or 20km ‘Mini’ Coast to Coast which is for kids and families.
So whatever your fitness level or challenge that you wish to set yourself, there is a ride for you.
The weather at this time of year is the end of Summer and heading into early autumn, so temperatures range from 10 to 25 degrees. Rain is unlikely but as always, check with the Bureau of Meteorology before the event for conditions on the day.
The 120 km ride starts in Glenelg which is 5 km from the airport and 10 km from the CBD. You’ll then be travelling east through the suburbs to the start of the M1 Freeway, then taking the Mount Barker Road which is a Great Climb up into the foothills towards Stirling at the top. This is where the 95km riders join in and is perfect for those who don’t like big climbs. You’ll then continue on through slight undulations in the backcountry towards Echunga, continuing south-west along the Plains to Meadows where the 65km riders join in. You’ll keep on cycling through beautiful bushland country as you go past Willunga, before turning southeast to then make your way to Victor Harbour.
There are connecting coaches that will transport riders back to the different start and finish lines. In the morning there are coach transfers from Adelaide to Stirling and Adelaide to Meadows. In the afternoon there are coach transfers from Victor Harbour to Adelaide, Victor Harbour to Stirling, and then Victor Harbour to Meadows. These tickets should be pre-purchased during registration.
At the end of the Coast to Coast ride, there is an Event Village with food and refreshments from local providers including hot food and coffee ice creams, soft drinks etc. There will be live music and other light entertainment for the kids.
The Coast 2 Coast is a social ride and is catering to the needs of different levels of rider who are wanting to experience a great day out.
This ride is a great way to involved with the fellowship of the pedal!
The organiser, BikeSA, is a not for profit organisation, independent of government, who promote all types of cycling and is focused on improving riding condition in SA.
